Get Motivated

Staying Flexible during Times of Transition:  Dale Carnegie & Associates

  • Think of yourself as stretchable, expandable, and able to adapt to anything new.
  • Refuse to be static, inflexible, and unable to adapt.
  • Expect that period of transition are unpredictable and we may see changes that we never anticipated.
  • Set short-term goals.  It is good to think ahead but not too far ahead.  Focus on goals and tasks that can be achieved in the immediate future.
  • Do not wait for motivation to take action.  It works the other way around.  Work with intense bursts of energy to get things done.  Taking this kind of action will be inspiring and create motivation to do more.
  • Extend yourself to others who are also in transition.  Attending Job Club is an example.  By aligning with others, you are less likely to isolate yourself or retreat into an unproductive comfort zone.
